Panic washed over the social Web on Monday after several reports indicated that a glitch within Facebook’s main site was causing the private messages of millions of users to be posted to public spaces, made visible for all to see.
Facebook was quick to respond to the reports, which originated in France, explaining that the posts users believed were private messages were actually old posts made when Facebook allowed users to write back and forth on each other’s virtual “walls” that were now being pulled into a more public area of the site.
