When Apple Inc. first announced the iPad Mini and said it would sell for a starting price of $329, many analysts and consumers were disappointed that the price wasn’t $299. Some had even hoped Apple might bring out a model that would compete on price with Amazon.com Inc.’s $199 Kindle Fire HD.
Analysts worried that the higher price might hurt unit sales and possibly even eat into sales of the iPad 2, the prior generation of the larger-screened device that sells for $399.
